Strathmill Distillery
Strathmill was founded in 1823, not as a distillery but a cornmill. In 1891 inspired by the whisky boom going on around them, the owners convert the mill into a distillery.
It traded under the name Glenisla-Glenlivet, perhaps named for the river Isla which runs past the foot of the building.
In 1895 Gin makers W & A Gilbey bought the distillery in 1962 and changed the name to Strathmill. Gilbey merged with United Wine Traders to make International Distillers & Vintners.
It has been owned by Diageo since 1997 who operate it for the production of blends such as J&B whisky. Strathmill casks are used by Duncan Taylor to bottle their whisky.
