Tasting Notes – Springbank Case of 6 10 Year Old 46%
A gentle Kintyre coastal breeze, redolent with damp peat, identifies this as one of Campbeltown’s finest. Fresh orchard fruit, orange zest, heather and honey combine with malt and vanilla notes to offer a warm welcome to Springbank’s flagship malt.
Equal measures of complexity and robustness with an oily mouthfeel and plenty of spice, pepper, nutmeg and cinnamon. The orchard fruit and malt notes from the nose continue, providing balance and character.
Sweet salted caramel, toffee and drying peat prolong to round off this signature malt
Notes from the distillery.
The distillery was established in 1828 on the site of Archibald Mitchell’s illicit still. The distillery is now in the hands of their current Chairman, Hedley G. Wright, Mitchell’s great, great grandson – the fifth generation of the Mitchell family. Based in Campbeltown, the once proclaimed ‘whisky capital of the world’, it is no surprise that many of the methods established by its forefathers are still applied in the distillery today.
The team use traditional production methods and involved in each and every step of the whisky making process – meaning their whisky is the most handmade in Scotland. Unlike any other distillery in the country, 100% of this process is carried on one site, giving unrivaled control over the quality of the whisky. Passion and skill are poured into every last drop during production; ensuring whisky drinkers consistently enjoy the tastes and characteristics that have become synonymous with Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow, the three distinct single malts made at the distillery. Water for the whisky is supplied by Crosshill Loch.
Visitors to Campbeltown can enjoy learning about the rich history of the distillery during one of the many tours, held by a welcoming and knowledgeable team. The Springbank Society also offers whisky lovers the chance to attend exclusive events and purchase special edition limited release whiskies, bottled especially for society members.
Incredibly proud of their whisky, the area and the history, there is dedication in preserving the heritage of the distillery so that Springbank can continue to be enjoyed across the world for centuries to come.
