Tasting Notes-Talisker 18 Year Old 45.8%
Full bodied, pleasant and smooth.
Rich and fruity Victoria plums, greengages, perhaps dried orange peel with some butterscotch or rum toffee and a thread of smoke behind.
Sweet in front, then more assertive, with a whiff of smoke. The overall effect is warming. The development is towards smoke, coal-tar, and toffee.
Medium length and chilli ‘catch’ in the finish.
Notes from the Distillery
Brothers Hugh and Kenneth moved to Skye from the Island of Eigg and built the distillery at Carbost in 1830. It was later leased to Donald McLellan in 1857 who went bankrupt in 1863 and eventually leased to John Anderson in 1866.
Over the years the distillery changed hands and by 1898 under Dailuaine-Talisker Distillery.Co.Ltd. their whisky became one of the best selling single malts in Scotland. In 1916 the distillery was again taken over by John Walker and Sons along with John Dewar and Sons.
Like many other distilleries it had to close during war. Today is one of the oldest distilleries on the Island of Skye.
