Notes from Tobermory distillery
Was established in 1798. Tobermory means ‘Mary’s Well’ in Gaelic is the only Isle of Mull distillery and sits at the centre of the Island community. It is also one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland.
It has in the past suffered closures and financial troubles which threatened its existence.
The distillery also produces the Tobermory gin as well as two distinct single malts: a non-peated Tobermory and a heavily-peated Ledaig.
The two malts are produced using the same stills, wash backs, mash tuns and the same process water but the two are totally different in character due to the malted barley used.
Today it is a thriving, expressive and unique distillery on the Hebridean Island of Mull.
